Dirt and dust
accumulates slowly on signs and the day-to-day changes may not be noticed.
However, the change in color, visual appearance, and loss of sign brightness
from this accumulation can be significant in a relatively short time. For this
reason, we recommend that signs be washed a minimum of twice a year.
There may be some locations where facilities may require more frequent
cleaning. Generally, these areas are well known to local people. These
locations are normally associated with heavy atmospheric pollution such as in
dense industrial areas. Also, there may be some non-industrial locations such
as areas in the South where heavy pollen and insects can create a need for
frequent cleaning. In areas where these conditions exist, the faces should be
cleaned at least four times a year to keep them looking clean and to remove any
surface contaminations which may be harmful to the decorated plastic or vinyl
Faces.
It is possible that the contamination can be on the inside surface of
the signs. If this occurs, the face will also need to be washed on the backside
of the face. This must be accomplished with extreme care as the inside surface
is a very thin layer of paint which can be very easily scratched or otherwise
damaged. If, after cleaning the outside of the face, the contamination is still
visible when the face is backlit, the inside of the face will need to be
cleaned.
